Hi everyone! This week was pretty hectic. The most stressed
I’ve been this entire time so far. I had wanted to help prepare food for Thanksgiving
but we celebrated Thanksgiving the Friday after the first week of model school,
and model school was pretty scary for me. This week, I finally taught a class
for the first time! In Portuguese! Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, I tried
helping out with the pumpkin pies. Pumpkin pies was something I really wanted
to help with since we always make apple and pumpkin pies every year Emily :) We
cut and steamed the pumpkins that night but I was too busy trying to figure out
what I was going to teach to help with the final product. Luckily, I was still
able to help out Thursday night with the cookies. They were all delicious!

But back to model school. I ended up in the group teaching
ninth grade biology, which was about plants. I was suppose to teach two classes
on two different days, Thursday and Friday. The subjects I would teach would be
plant metabolism and reproduction. On my first day of class, I was not as
prepared as I should have been. My second lesson was much better though, thank goodness. I'll update more when I get a chance but here are some photos in the meantime!

Our successful adventure to the German Bakery.
German pastries! Yum!
Thanksgiving was a delicious meal! Jennea did a great job
organizing everything. We had a tent at the math building again and so much
food! All of the stereotypical Thanksgiving dishes and desserts. We also had a
few Mozambican dishes as well. My sister, Atesia, actually made 200 samosas for
everyone! I was raving about how delicious they are to my friends and when we
couldn’t get the lady who usually makes them at the bar, I asked my sister and
she agreed. The dish that made me most happy, however, was the pecan pie!! Our
country director likes to make pies and he brought many pecan pies for us. I
was so happy. All the food was delicious too and I ate until I was bursting. We
invited our LCFs to come as a cultural exchange and it, honestly, was the best
Thanksgiving I could have asked for away from home. Good food and good friends.
It was also a nice way to end a stressful week. I couldn’t ask for anything
more.

My first plate. The turkey was perfectly seasoned and we had
gravy!
